NOMAMBO NOMAMBO Thu, 11 Feb 2016 03:38:33 +0000 en-US hourly 1 January NOMAMBO Meeting Recap. /january-nomambo-meeting-recap-2/ Sat, 16 Jan 2016 01:21:53 +0000 /?p=147 On Wednesday, Jan 13th NOMAMBO met for the first club meeting of 2016. In attendance: Eric H., Ricky, Adam, Cody, Bryan, Tim, Devin, Althea, Eric L., Frank, Tony, Rob V., Kurt, Mike T., and Rob L.

Eric started off the meeting with an update on the Trail. With the opening of the Spillway, the trail was under approximately three feet of water at the time of the meeting. The trail is expected to be under 15 or more feet of water before they close the spillway in two to four weeks. Once the Spillway is closed to the river, it is expected to take two weeks for the water to recede and another two weeks for the trail to be dry enough to rebuild. Several BRAMBA members have expressed interest in assisting with the rebuilding efforts and Devin Vallotton stated that his Scout Troop would like to help in an effort to get a new badge. More will be available when the trail is closed and water has receded.

The Insanity Check has been moved to Lafayette at Acadiana Park on account of the spillway being open. The course is a little short than the spillway but it has similar terrain. The Goal is still to make 100 miles if possible and is still February 21st. The even will also be used as an IMBA membership drive with Steve Schneider, the IMBA South Central Region Director attending.

Discussion also included a change of location for the Spillway Scramble on April 17th. The desired location is Bogue Chitto even though trail have not been cut yet. The plan is to use existing double track trails, horse trails and hiking trails. Tim advised the club that a course map is needed as soon as possible so that the park can make the necessary arrangements.

Tim also advised the club that as soon as the north shore group and Friends of Bogue Chitto State Park are ready, cutting of the trail will begin. This will be a focus for the club until we can get into the spillway. This is a great opportunity for growth of our sport and a great new place to ride once we have some trail built.

Adam advised that the clubs membership is approximately 32 members after making a call to IMBA. The numbers are not firm as of yet with a large influx of renews and new membership in January. It was stated that the club needs to contact Sallie Hoefer at IMBA to set up online training so club officers can access membership and the clubs share of membership funds.

Election of new officers has been post phoned till the February Meeting. That meeting will take place at Wingz N Thingz on February 10th, 2016 at 7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting and out on the trails.

Membership /membership/ Sat, 21 Feb 2015 06:07:45 +0000 /?p=126 Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a new year and we have come to that time of the year when memberships need to be renewed. $25.00 is a small price to pay to have a trail to ride that is maintained as well as the NOMAMBO MTB Trail is. It takes money to buy tools, weed killer, lumber etc to keep the trail clean and build and maintain the structures that we have so please show your support by becoming a member and lets keep this thing going. You can fill out a form and pay at most club events or go for the easy way out and join online at our website.

Thank you and Good Riding!

February NOMAMBO Meeting Recap /119/ Thu, 12 Feb 2015 05:12:16 +0000 /?p=119 On Wednesday, February 11, NOMAMBO met for the second club meeting of 2015 at Rotolo’s Pizzeria in Metairie, LA. In attendance: Eric, Ryan, Tony, Adam, Tim, Dudley, Cody, Rob, Chad, and Steve,

The meeting started off by handing the floor over to Tim for updates on NOMAMBO’s IMBA membership and Bogue Chitto State Park. Tim stated that the IMBA application was submitted and accepted with things progressing nicely. IMBA is waiting for the state EIN with a deadline of March 30, 2015. IMBA will also be assigning the chapter area by zip-codes.

On the topic of Bogu Chitto, Tim stated that he met with several state park officials who want to have the trail built in the state park and also use it as a test for putting MTB trails in all state parks. Starting a North Shore club or chapter is imperative to the success of this trail and is a top priority. Tim stated that he has talked with the bike shops on the north shore with interest from both. Also a press release will be published soon to help fine members. It was stated that the trail was still a good ways off with a number of things still to be decided by the State Park including the use of power tools, standardized signage, and who would be allowed to construct the trail. Overall, the prospects of a new trail are promising.

The next topic on the table was the upcoming Spillway Scramble. Eric and Ryan lead the discussion with updates on preparations for the March 1st race.Ryan stated that trophies were coming along with a good portion of the material prep completed. Eric added that timing, event t-shirts, and food were secured for the event. Eric proposed that the same course setup from 2014 be used again and all members in attendance voted in favor.

Eric also stated a work day for the trail has been scheduled for Sunday, February 21, 2015 at 8:00 for general trail maintenance  and race prep. A Facebook event for the work day was also created and available here.

NOMAMBO 2015 Membership currently stands at 17 members. If you are not a member and would like to join to support the club and trail, Membership forms are available at meetings and online here. Annual membership is $25.

The next NOMAMBO meeting will take place at Rotolo’s Pizzeria in Metairie, LA on March 11, 2015. We hope to see you there.

January NOMAMBO Meeting Recap. /january-nomambo-meeting-recap/ Wed, 11 Feb 2015 23:00:27 +0000 /?p=117 On Wednesday, Jan 14th NOMAMBO met for the first club meeting of 2015. In attendance: Eric, Dudley, Ricky, Adam, Jon, Cody, Bryan, Tim, Brent, Mike T., and Donna.

Eric started off the meeting with discussion of applying for membership to IMBA as a Charter Club. What does that entail? There are several benefits of being a Charter Club member of IMBA. First of all, being a member gives the club access to IMBA’s knowledge of trail building, contacts, use of their non-profit status, grants and support. There is a one- time application fee of $500 to join, they also require 60% of the membership fees. Members present voted unanimously to apply for Charter membership.

Tim then discussed the St. Francisville area is looking to join or form a club. They are going to be working on the existing Beast trail and possibly starting from scratch on creating an additional mtb trail.

Bogue Chitto is still in the works as well. Eric and Tim and others have been in discussions with the park rangers regarding expanding the current trail system there. Still working out design plans, etc., checking to see about grants that may be available to apply for if IMBA Charter club is granted; more to come as this develops.

March 1st is the opening race for the LMBCS and NOMAMBO is hosting. T-shirts are being ordered, trophies are under development as well. The timing has been booked, jambalaya has been ordered, number plates are ordered. Still looking for volunteers to work registration that morning before the race, and general assistance as needed. If you would like to volunteer or know of anyone that can help out please contact us.

Mark your calendars for February 8th CENTURY RIDE! No registration fees, no officials, just a self-enforced mark your laps as you go ride. Watch for the event to be posted with more details!

Time Trials will resume again this year with a change. Instead of meeting up early on Sunday mornings, we are moving them to Saturday afternoons. We will post up in advance date and times.

This Sunday, January 18th we will have a scheduled work day for trail maintenance. Several things will be addressed with the main focus being the entrance bridge into the trail. Please bring shovels, rakes, wheel barrows if you are attending.

Finally the meeting closed out with officer elections. Here are the results:
President – Eric Heyl
Vice President – Ryan Lawson
Treasurer – Tony Palmisano
Secretary – Adam Rouillier
Trail Boss – Bryan Miller
